Check before you pay

Run the IMEI through a free blacklist check before paying. A blacklisted (reported lost or stolen) phone can be blocked by carriers.
Make sure the seller has signed out of their account (Find My / Google account). An activation-locked phone is useless to you.
Check battery health in Settings and look for a 'non-genuine part' or 'unknown part' message.
Test Face ID or fingerprint, both cameras, speakers, mic, charging port and cellular signal with your own SIM.
Confirm whether it is unlocked or tied to one carrier, and that the storage size matches the listing.
