Check before you pay
- Ask the seller to sign out of iCloud / Microsoft account and turn off Find My (or BIOS/firmware passwords) in front of you.
- Check the battery cycle count and health; a worn battery is a common hidden cost.
- Confirm the exact chip, RAM and storage in the system information screen, not just the listing title.
- Test every key, the trackpad, ports, webcam, speakers and Wi-Fi. Look for dead pixels and hinge wobble.
- Prefer a fresh reset in front of you so you know it is not tied to a company device-management profile.

Start with Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji and Craigslist for local pickup, then compare shipped options on eBay Canada. BuyLow AI searches these marketplaces at once and flags listings priced below typical resale value.
How much is a used laptop in Montreal?
Used prices are set nationally online, so Montreal lines up with the rest of Canada: about $285 to $430 for the models in our table. Local listings often start higher and come down after a few days.
How do I avoid scams when buying a used laptop locally?
Inspect and test it in person before paying, check that it is signed out of the seller's account, and avoid deposits, gift cards or anyone who wants to move the chat off the marketplace.
Do I pay sales tax on a used laptop in Montreal?
Stores and most online marketplaces collect tax: 5% GST + 9.975% QST. Casual private sales between individuals usually don't add sales tax, which is one reason local deals can come out cheaper. Rules vary, so check your province if you sell often.
